APPLY FOR A GRANT

1. Find a sport program for your kid(s) and register her/him/them.
2. Once registered, apply online or use the paper application form.
3. Complete all sections of the application including supporting pieces (financial documentation & registration receipt).
4. Notify the sport organization that you are requesting funds from KidSport.
5. Once approved, KidSport will send your grant funding to the sport club and then the sport club will reimburse you.
6. Once approved, KidSport will email the adult sponsor & sport club confirming application result.
7. Once approved, if you require equipment, once approved by KidSport, you will be referred to Sport Central and will set up an appointment with them to receive gently used sport equipment.

When applying, it is required to submit:

1. 1. KidSport’s ‘So ALL Kids Can Play!’ Application completely filled out.
   2. Attach the sport registration receipt (or confirmation document, if not paying up front)
   3. Attach financial documentation (click on documents for examples). Must be from most recent tax year & must account for all adults in the home. Preferred document: Canada Child Benefit Notice Page 1 & 2; OR
      • Base year of 2022 and 2023
        • Notice of Assessment for each adult in the home
      • Most Recent within 3 months of application date
        • Alberta Health Benefits Letter
        • Child Health Benefits Letter
        • Subsidized Housing Letter
        • Proof of EI
        • Income Support i.e., AISH
        • Receipt for City of Edmonton Leisure Access or Transit Pass
        • Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada Document
          • Determining Eligibility - Ukraine Temporary Residents
          • Status Document 1
          • Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) Statement 
        • Delegation of Powers & Duties Document; OR
        • Provide a signed Endorser Verification Letter (from School Principal or Counsellor, Social Worker, Lawyer, Police Officer, Member of Clergy)

• The family must live within the City of Edmonton
• Kid(s) must be registered in a sport program
• Kid(s) must be 18 years and younger
• KidSport considers the social and economic barriers facing the family when determining eligibility including families who face financial hardship and are on AISH, unemployed, or receiving income support through provincial government.

Approval for KidSport Edmonton’s subsidy program is based on the
Federal Government’s Low-income Cut Off Scale (updated July 2023) +50%, for Net Income, as shown below.

• LEVEL OF SPORT: sport registration fees for all levels of sport including introduction/recreation to elite, team & individual sport, school sport, sport camps & parasport programs
• LENGTH OF SPORT: A sport program must be at least 4 weeks in length, unless it’s a camp then 4 days minimum (consecutive or not)
• SPORT PROGRAM MUST: be led by a qualified instructor, have a start and end date, consist of 80% sport and be one of the many sports KidSport Edmonton supports (to see the full list of sports, please click here)
• If your child needs equipment, it’s best to apply to KidSport 2 months before the sport begins and once approved for KidSport, a referral to Sport Central is provided. However, if you need equipment immediately, call Sport Central to set up an appointment directly (780) 477-1166
• Grant funding is strictly used for sport registration fees only; not covered:
  • Volunteer Opt-Out fees
  • Team fees
  • Tournament fees
  • Transportation
  • Cash calls

Together with our network of nearly 40 local chapters, KidSport removes barriers 'So ALL Kids Can Play!' If you do not see a chapter for your community click Here. Grants for parents and guardians living outside of chapter boundaries are provided through the KidSport Alberta Provincial Fund. The provincial fund works like a big chapter, and covers all communities that do not have a dedicated KidSport chapter.

The Hockey Assist Program (HAP) is a fee assistance program that covers up to $3,000 of the registration fee connected to competition and season-based ice hockey programs.

• HAP Season 2 Funding Rules:
  • Season 2 runs from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024
  • Ice-hockey OR hockey learn to skate registration fees will be funded in full.
  • A kid is only eligible for HAP funding ONCE per HAP season (i.e., hockey learn to skate program OR full hockey season). If your kid will be registering for both hockey learn to skate and hockey this season, ensure you apply for KidSport HAP funding for the more expensive program.
  • All approved kids receive access to no-cost sport equipment through Sport Central .
  • A kid funded through HAP can also receive funding through KidSport’s regular grant funding program, for other sports (i.e., funding for hockey + swimming).

Applications are declined if:

• It’s not a sport program
• The sport program is over
• It is not run by a qualified/certified instructor
• It’s not a sport registration fee i.e., lift passes, gym memberships, etc.
• If annual allotment per kid has been used in the calendar year
• The family does not meet the financial requirements
• If the kid is over 18 years old
• Note: City of Edmonton Programs (Leisure Access Program), Taegeuk Taekwondo, and Sung Lee Taekwondo (Edmonton locations) have chosen to NOT administer KidSport's Grant Program. Contact us for help with finding other sport programs.
