Mirela immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of 10. She first experienced sporting success on the rugby pitch, as a player for the Guelph Gryphons. She began competing in the Sport of Skeleton in 2013 and went on to represent Canada in 2 Winter Olympics (2018, 2022). Mirela is a multiple World Cup Medalist and a 2 x Crystal Globe Overall Bronze Winner. Mirela is passionate about building a strong community through sport and has been involved with organizations like Fast and Female and Classroom Champions, bringing her experiences from two Olympics and around the World to kids in sport.
