Born and raised in Calgary, AB Mike attended the Calgary French & International School. He started hockey at the age of 4 and he dreamed that one day he would be in the NHL, but at the age 14 he decided that baseball was of more interest to him. He played for PBF Redbirds under Jim Lawson from 2010 – 2015. In between those years he played for Alberta at the 2013 CSG, Team Canada (u18) and the University of California Berkeley. He was drafted to the Atlanta Braves in the first round (28th overall) in 2015. He made his Major League debut with the Atlanta Braves on May 1st, 2018 in NY against the Mets.
Until recently, he never understood how fortunate he was to have been able to play not only one, but multiple sports growing up. Seeing how sports, not just baseball, has shaped him into the person he is today, has been something that has made him very thankful for the opportunity to grow through athletics. He believes that games should be played as such, and used to build confidence, teamwork, social competitiveness, sportsmanship as well as physical ability. Teamwork is one of the most important aspects of life, either through sports, school, or business and can be taught through sport much easier than other methods. Being able to help give kids tools for work ethic and teamwork is invaluable to Mike. It is important that kids have the opportunity to just be kids, because of the ways it can set them up for continual success beyond childhood. Being involved with KidSport gives him the opportunity to influence many young lives, while also giving back to the community that has and continues to shape him.
