The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on families have increased the financial barriers associated with sport. As sport returns to our communities, it is going to play a crucial role in our recovery.<\/p>\n
The KidSport Back to Sport project launched in 2020 to ensure that KidSport kids have the opportunity to lace up and get back into the game while supporting their mental and physical health.<\/p>\n
\u201cViterra is proud to continue supporting KidSport through their Return to Sport campaign,\u201d said Kyle Jeworski, CEO of Viterra North America. \u201cWe strongly believe in the importance of kids playing sports to cultivate their skills, and support their physical and mental wellbeing. We encourage everyone who can, to make a contribution and join us in helping bring sports back across the province.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since 1995, KidSport has supported over 140,000 kids in Alberta into a season of organized sports by providing over $30 million worth of financial assistance for registration fees. Despite the disruptions in 2020, KidSport chapters in Alberta still granted 6,312 youth ($1,567,803) the chance to play. During a \u2018typical year,\u2019 KidSport Alberta supports over 13,000 kids.<\/p>\n
\u201cKidSport assists kids from low income families into sport by paying registration fees to get them playing. With Viterra\u2019s help, donations at the local chapter level go further which means more kids are supported,\u201d said Greg Ingalls, KidSport Alberta Executive Director. \u201cAs we get back to sport post COVID-19, partners like Viterra will be critical to ensure that all kids are given the opportunity to play. Local kids need us now more than ever. We thank Viterra for their continued support and their interest in growing youth sports across Alberta.\u201d<\/p>\n
