A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Scott Macfarlane headshot

On behalf of KidSport North Shore, I would like to welcome everyone to our October quarterly newsletter!

KidSport North Shore (KSNS) is a charity that provides funding to families facing financial challenges, so that their kids can participate in sports programs on the North Shore. KSNS provides funding to help cover registration fees and related costs so that all kids aged 5-18 living on the North Shore can play a season of sport. KSNS accepts applications from families for funding and provides grants of up to $600 per child per year.

2024 has already been a very busy year for KSNS! We hope you enjoy the features and inspiring stories below and thank you for your continuing support of KSNS!

KSNS, North Shore Minor Lacrosse and the Squamish Nation Partner to Bring More Kids to Lacrosse

KidSport North Shore (KSNS), the Squamish Nation, and the North Shore Minor Lacrosse Association (NSMLA) began 2024 with an ongoing project to encourage more enrolment in youth lacrosse in the Squamish Nation community on the North Shore. KSNS has assisted with funding 23 kids from the Squamish Nation community in lacrosse starting in early 2024. This initiative was aimed at doubling enrolment in lacrosse programs in the Squamish Nation community, and KSNS was thrilled to be a part of this initiative and looks forward to an ongoing partnership with the Squamish Nation and NSMLA to make lacrosse more accessible for all kids.

KSNS would also like to acknowledge and extend its thanks and appreciation to TD Canada Trust for their contribution of $5000, and gratefully acknowledges the support of The District of West Vancouver through their Community Grants Program, which contributed $4500 to the project.

We are also extremely grateful to the North Shore Community Foundation, which has recently pledged support in the amount of $19,000 for KSNS and its ongoing support of the Squamish Nation community and youth sport.

Hamber Foundation - KidSport North Shore received a very generous grant of $1500 from the Hamber Foundation in 2024. The Hamber Foundation was established in 1964, and in its 60 year history has provided countless grants for cultural, educational and charitable purposes to organizations and associations in arts, athletics, health care, education, youth groups, and welfare within British Columbia. Neptune Terminals, which operates a bulk shipping terminal in North Vancouver, has again supported KSNS with a $3000 donation in 2024. We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support of Neptune Terminals who have donated to KSNS year after year, demonstrating their commitment to helping North Shore families ensure that their kids can participate in sport.

And thank you to all of our individual and corporate supporters, to all North Shore foundations and municipalities, and to the provincial government for their tremendous support of KSNS in 2024.

We’re voting for Sport – for health, connection, and community!

The election is right around the corner, and we need to make sport a platform priority for each and every candidate.

There are numerous health, social, and economic benefits attributed to sport. It can be a generator of social capital, supporting societal goals such as child and youth development, crime prevention, economic development, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. Sport has so much to offer – yet, much of its tremendous potential remains untapped.

We’re asking all KSNS supporters to use your voice to talk to people in your community – candidates, neighbours and your friends about the important role sport plays in your life. We want to know that the parties and candidates who will form the next provincial government share our commitment to sport, and that they understand how inclusive and accessible sport creates healthy communities.

We’re not just here for the game—we’re here for community, health, wellness, and social inclusion.

We are inviting you to join this campaign. Be a sport champion and use our activist toolkit, which includes social posts, letters and additional resources. To access the toolkit, click on https://sportbc.com/votingforsport2024/
