Nic Demski grew up playing almost every sport imaginable, from tee-ball to badminton to volleyball and (of course) football! The 2021 Grey Cup’s Most Outstanding Canadian knows how important sport can be and the positive impact it can have, especially for kids at the developmental age. “Sport has shaped my life in so many ways, from socializing, to learning lessons about respect and how to treat others. It has also given me a chance to give back to my community” says Demski.<\/p>\n\n
KidSport is a national charity administered in Manitoba by Sport Manitoba and removes financial barriers that prevent kids from playing organized sport. KidSport believes that no kid should be left on the sidelines, and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sport.<\/p>\n
Demski cites his opportunities gained through sport as the reason for teaming up with KidSport. His family was fortunate enough to be able to afford the high costs of organized sport, but Nic knows that many kids are not as lucky as he was. The reality is that cost keeps 1 in 3 Canadian kids out of organized sport.<\/p>\n
Nic is quick to point out that participation in sport helped prepare him for many of the obstacles life has thrown his way, and he wants more kids to gain that same type of experience. “It’s not about what knocks you down, it’s about how you get back up, and then rise above it.”<\/p>\n
