KidSport Nova Scotia is extremely honored to announce we have been selected as a grant recipient for the prestigious Daryl K. Seaman Canadian Hockey Fund at the Calgary Foundation. The $21,000 contribution will help KidSport offset sport registration and equipment fees for new Canadian families facing financial barriers to sport participation.<\/p>\n
“Sport participation puts children and youth on a positive life course developing a wide range of skills and attitudes including teamwork, communication, leadership, problem solving, self-discipline and self confidence. Our goal with this grant is to support new Canadian children as there is increasing evidence that sport can create a welcoming environment for new citizens and help integrate them into their community” said Colin Gillis, Coordinator for KidSport Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n
In 2020, KidSport Nova Scotia granted out over $323,000 to help 1,144 children participate in sport, so the incredible support from the Daryl K. Seaman Fund will directly impact at least 70 new Canadian children across the province.<\/p>\n

About Daryl K. Seaman<\/strong><\/p>\n Daryl K. \u201cDoc\u201d Seaman has been described as a hero, icon, pioneer, philanthropist, visionary and legend. On the list of his many achievements, he was an original owner of the Calgary Flames and was instrumental in bringing them to Calgary in 1980. Among his many accomplishments, Doc was also known for his wartime experiences as a World War II pilot, and for his civic contribution as a member of the Royal Commission on Economic Union and Development Prospects for Canada, 1982-1985. Doc received two honorary Doctor of Laws degrees and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. His philanthropic giving ranged from supporting medical education to funding entrepreneurial initiatives. Doc\u2019s love for ranching, hockey and sports, and his dedication to community will leave a lasting legacy for years to come.<\/p>\n The legacy of legendary philanthropist Doc Seaman lives on through the Daryl K.
