Government of Saskatchewan Minister of Parks, Culture and Sport, Laura Ross, proclaimed May as KidSport Month in Saskatchewan. The month-long campaign, which will feature COVID-safe fundraisers and celebrations, begins on May 1.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSport and recreation\u00a0plays\u00a0such an important role in the health and well-being for children and youth,\u201d Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said. \u201cParticipation in sport at a young age teaches life skills that will help our children in all aspects of life and has positive effects on both their mental and physical development. Thank you to\u00a0KidSport\u00a0for allowing children in our province to participate by assisting with financial barriers.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2020,\u00a0even with COVID-19 restrictions\u00a0and the different look of many organized sports,\u00a0KidSport\u00a0Saskatchewan granted $656,050 to assist\u00a03,751 children and youth in province to get off the sidelines and into the game.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0in addition to the over $13 million raised and more than 150,000 kids helped since\u00a0KidSport\u00a0in Saskatchewan started in 1995.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re grateful for the continued support of our partners, sponsors, donors and volunteers who help us to eliminate the financial barriers associated with participation in organized sport,\u201d said Jerry Shoemaker, Provincial\u00a0KidSport\u00a0Committee Chair. \u201cBy\u00a0giving\u00a0kids\u00a0the chance to\u00a0experience the power of sport, we are providing them with the opportunities to learn\u00a0skills and lessons that can help them throughout their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

To help fundraise, the 40 local\u202fKidSport\u202fchapters across the province will host a variety of fundraising events and activities, following COVID-19 regulations, including:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
