Sport Nova Scotia is proud to announce that more than $1.1 million in sport funding was allocated to over 2,700 Nova Scotian children in 2023. This is the first ever year grant contributions surpassed the million-dollar mark due to a significant increase in funding contributions.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to participate in sport”, said Allan MacMaster, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage. “This investment from the Province of Nova Scotia will ensure that cost is not a barrier to a child’s hope of enjoying participation.”
The province’s 13 KidSport chapters provide grants to help cover the costs of sport registration and equipment fees so that all kids aged 18 and under can play a season of sport. Since 1994, the non-profit organization has assisted over 34,700 children get in the game.
“Access to sport plays a vital role in shaping young minds, fostering teamwork, and building confidence,” said Jeff LeDrew, Sport Nova Scotia’s Director of Marketing and Events. “By investing in our young athletes, we’re providing them with a safe place to go and make memories, all while empowering them to succeed and supporting a level playing field for all.”
