Grant funding is strictly used for sport registration fees only;
Items not covered by the KidSport's 'So ALL Kids Can Play' Grant Program include:

  • Uniform/team apparel/jerseys
• LEVEL OF SPORT: sport registration fees for all levels of sport including introduction/recreation to elite, team & individual sport, school sport, sport camps & parasport programs
• LENGTH OF SPORT: A sport program must be at least 4 weeks in length, unless it’s a camp, then 4 days minimum (consecutive or not)
• SPORT PROGRAM MUST be led by a qualified instructor, have a start and end date, consist of 80% sport and be one of the many sports KidSport Edmonton supports (to see the full list of sports, please click here)

• LEVEL OF SPORT: sport registration fees for all levels of sport including introduction/recreation to elite, team & individual sport, school sport, sport camps & parasport programs.

KidSport works partnership with Sport Central who provides no-cost gently-used or new equipment to kids ages 4-17 across Northern Alberta.

If your child needs sport equipment, please apply to KidSport at least 2 months before the sport program begins and indicate the equipment needed on your application.

Once your application is approved for KidSport, a referral to Sport Central is provided.

Sport Central provides equipment for eligible KidSport kids who are registered in:

• Badminton
• Baseball/Softball * (proof of registration required)
• Basketball
• Bicycles
• Cross Country Skiing
• Figure Skating * (proof of registration required)
• Football
• Golf
• Hockey (Ice, Ball, Inline) * (proof of registration required)
• Lacrosse * (proof of registration required)
• Leisure (Sleds, Scooters, Skateboards, Longboards, Rollerblades)
• Ringette * (proof of registration required)
• Snowboarding
• Soccer (indoor, outdoor) * (proof of registration required)
• Tennis
• Volleyball

However, if you need equipment immediately, call Sport Central to set up an appointment directly (780) 477-1166 or fill out this form and follow its instructions.

Sport Central will require proof of sport registration and specific financial documentation.

• The family must live within the City of Edmonton
• Kid(s) must be 18 years old or younger
• The family must meet the financial eligibility requirement

Approval for KidSport Edmonton’s subsidy program is based on the
Federal Government’s Low-income Cut Off (LICO) Scale updated May 2024, for 2024 Family Net Income +50%, as shown below.

When applying, it is required to submit:

1. 1. KidSport’s ‘So ALL Kids Can Play!’ Application completely filled out.
   2. The sport registration receipt for your kid's sport season/program you're applying for
   3. Financial documentation: Pages 1 & 2 of 2024 Canada Child Benefit (CCB) Form
      **Please note: if you don't have your 2024 Canada Child Benefit Notice, please reach out to edmonton@kidsport.ab.ca to explain your situation, and we'll do our best to help you submit your application with all the required documents.
      
      Follow these instructions to get your 2024 CCB:
      • Log into CRA My account
      • Click Mail
      • Scroll down on the left side to "Correspondence"
      • Look for your most recent CCB notice.
      • Click on it and click PDF.
      • This will generate your CCB form to either attach to your online KidSport Grant application, or attach to an email you'll send with your completed paper application and sport receipt to edmonton@kidsport.ab.ca

1. Find a sport program for your kid(s) and register her/him/them.
2. Once registered, apply for a KidSport grant online or use the paper application form.
   *Note: KidSport Edmonton requires the parent/guardian who registers their child into a sport to be the same parent/guardian who applies for KidSport grant funding for that same sport program/season.
3. Complete all sections of the application including supporting pieces (financial documentation & sport program registration receipt-complete with total cost, start/end dates of program, Sport Club name, and youth athlete's name.
4. Notify the sport organization that you are requesting funds from KidSport.
5. Once approved, KidSport will email the adult sponsor/guardian confirming application result.
6. At the end of the month an application is approved, KidSport will send grant funding to the Sport Club and an email listing funded athletes for the Sport Club to reimburse. Any remaining fees beyond what our grant covers are payment plans that need to be discussed directly with the Sport Club, not KidSport.
7. If you require equipment, once application is approved by KidSport, you will be referred to Sport Central for an an appointment to be set up with them to receive gently used sport equipment.
   However, if you need equipment immediately, call Sport Central to set up an appointment directly (780) 477-1166 or fill out this form and follow its instructions. Sport Central will require proof of sport registration and specific financial documentation.

• Webform Application vs. Paper Application
  • The difference between the two is that the webform allows the form filler to submit all documents (application, sport registration receipt and financial document) in one submission.
  • Please note that email verification and confirmation of signature is required in order to complete and submit the application using the Adobe webform option. The Adult Sponsor (Parent/Guardian) will receive an email to the email address used in Section 3 of the application to confirm their signature.
  • The form filler/signer will receive this notification upon completing the form:
    • We just emailed you a link to make sure it's you. It will only take a few seconds, and we can't accept your signature on "KidSport Edmonton Application 2025" until you've confirmed.
  • The form filler/signer will also receive an email from adobesign@adobesign.com to confirm their email address and signature.
  • The other option is the regular printable version that we have been using.

KidSport Edmonton approves applications in the first 3 weeks of the month. During the 4^th week of the month, KidSport Edmonton sends cheques & EFTs to Sport Clubs that are connected to the approved applications.

The Sport Club will then reimburse the parent/guardian, if the parent/guardian paid up front.

Note: Depending at what point within the month an application has been approved, it can take up to 4+ weeks for the funds to be sent to the Sport Club.

*Please note: Funding sent to Sport Clubs cannot be added to a family's Sport Club account as a credit for future programming or seasons. It must be used for the progam/season the family applied to KidSport Edmonton to support. Unused funds need to be refunded to KidSport Edmonton if the athlete could not/did not participate in the planned program for whatever reason.

Applications may be declined for the following reasons:

• • The application is not applying for a sport program (e.g., e-sport, or it is arts or academic based)
  • The sport program has already concluded
  • The sport program is not run by a qualified/certified instructor
  • It is not a sport registration fee (e.g., lift passes, gym membership, etc.)
  • If the annual allotment per child has already been fully used for that calendar year
  • The family does not meet the financial requirements
  • If the child is over 18 years old
  • The sport program is religious/faith-based
  • The sport program is an adult (18+) sport program

*Please Note: KidSport Edmonton does not partner with the following Sport Organizations & therefore applications for grant funding for their sport programs will be declined:
- City of Edmonton programs (Leisure Access Program)
- Taegeuk Taekwondo
- Sung Lee Taekwondo (Edmonton locations)
- Passport to Play
- Aviators Basketball Club
- Griesbach Dance Company
- Zenith Strikers
- Al-Rashid Youth Hub
- Phoenix Gymnastics Centre

Grants for parents and guardians living outside of chapter boundaries are provided through the KidSport Alberta Provincial Fund. The provincial fund works like a big chapter, and covers all communities that do not have a dedicated local KidSport chapter.

Our KidSport Edmonton team can only process grant applications for children living in Edmonton.

All applications and residents for communities other than Edmonton must refer to the links above to ensure their application goes to the right chapter to prevent delays.

• KidSport’s Hockey Assist Program (HAP) is similar to KidSport’s ‘So ALL Kids Can Play!’ Grant Program.
• HAP is also a fee assistance program but it covers up to $750 of the registration fee connected to competition and season-based ice hockey programs with thanks to the following partners – The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, The Edmonton Minor Hockey Alumni Association and The Maple Leaf Alumni Association.
