My name is Tyler Smith and here’s a little bit about me. I grew up in Leduc, Alberta, just outside of Edmonton, where I played all of my hockey, lacrosse, and golf growing up. Looking back I am beyond grateful for all that my parents did for my brother and I, with not only life in general, but just for all the time, money, and effort they put into us and the sports we loved. Now, over 4 years since the crash that changed our lives forever, I am still making steps and learning a lot about myself along the way. I’ve been fortunate enough to speak in front of various audiences of people and also start a little mental health awareness clothing line. These are 2 endeavors that I never anticipated myself doing, but at the end of the day, it’s never been about me and I don’t want it to be. My ‘Not Alone’ clothing brand has been a chance to help amplify the simple phrases and words that have helped me along my journey to being open and having meaningful conversations. And that’s truly what it’s all about. To help facilitate those tough conversations with your loved ones from the messaging on the clothing. To wear your vulnerability proudly. It sure has been a journey with many ups and downs and as cliché as it sounds, if I can help even just one person along the way then that’s the end goal. And as for speaking, it's the same mission for me. With my story, I hope to be authentic and genuine in the way I deliver it. I am no expert in any form, but from my experience, I know how much power a story or experience, or new perspective can have within an individual listening. To be able to offer hope or inspiration in any way shape or form is something I would like to continue striving for.

To me, KidSport is what it’s all about. Hockey in particular gave me so much and is ultimately a major part of why I am the man I am today. From the character you develop, to the relationships you form, to the respect and love for the game, it’s truly one of the greatest sports in the world. And to help assist with being able to help more of our youth play this wonderful game is exactly the reason why I love KidSport and what they try to accomplish day in and day out.
