ALBERTA – Viterra and KidSport Alberta have teamed up with the aim of getting more kids Back to Sport in the province this fall.

During the month of September, Viterra will match all donations to KidSport chapters in Alberta up to $5,000. All funds raised go towards KidSport’s Back to Sport project and stay in each local community.

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on families have increased the financial barriers associated with sport. As sport returns to our communities, it is going to play a crucial role in our recovery.

The KidSport Back to Sport project launched in 2020 to ensure that KidSport kids have the opportunity to lace up and get back into the game while supporting their mental and physical health.

“Viterra is proud to continue supporting KidSport through their Return to Sport campaign,” said Kyle Jeworski, CEO of Viterra North America. “We strongly believe in the importance of kids playing sports to cultivate their skills, and support their physical and mental wellbeing. We encourage everyone who can, to make a contribution and join us in helping bring sports back across the province.”

Since 1995, KidSport has supported over 140,000 kids in Alberta into a season of organized sports by providing over $30 million worth of financial assistance for registration fees. Despite the disruptions in 2020, KidSport chapters in Alberta still granted 6,312 youth ($1,567,803) the chance to play. During a ‘typical year,’ KidSport Alberta supports over 13,000 kids.

“KidSport assists kids from low income families into sport by paying registration fees to get them playing. With Viterra’s help, donations at the local chapter level go further which means more kids are supported,” said Greg Ingalls, KidSport Alberta Executive Director. “As we get back to sport post COVID-19, partners like Viterra will be critical to ensure that all kids are given the opportunity to play. Local kids need us now more than ever. We thank Viterra for their continued support and their interest in growing youth sports across Alberta.”
