Simon Whitfield is one of only five men in the world to have raced in the four consecutive Olympic Games starting in 2000 until 2012. A retired Olympic triathlon champion from Kingston, Ontario, Simon has 10 consecutive Canadian Triathlon titles under his belt. Not to mention, he was the proud Canadian flag bearer during the opening ceremonies at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Whitfield won a gold medal and set an Olympic record at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia after persevering through a 15-person crash during the bike race. With the long-time goal of being the best in the world at something, this Canadian champion also took home a silver medal at the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008 – his third consecutive Olympic appearance.
After announcing his official retirement from professional sports in October 2013, Simon became partner and Director of Sports Entertainment at The Fantan Group, a Victoria-based process facilitation, event and management consulting firm, and he’s been working closely with Fantan to develop new spectator-friendly sports initiatives.
Simon is a proud part of Team KidSport and as an integral member of our Victoria chapter, Whitfield can often be found participating in local KidSport events and fundraisers. This summer he will star in a KidSporPSA on Sportsnet. This father of two active little girls is also an ambassador and mentor athlete for CIBC Team Next, a program that provides financial support, mentoring and skill development opportunities for amateur athletes.
