What is a Grant?
KidSport provides grants to kids from families facing financial barriers so they can participate in registered sport programs and experience the lifelong benefits of a season of sport. KidSport Grande Prairie provides grants of up to $350 per eligible child, per year (January 1st – December 31st) towards sport registration fees except ice hockey fees.
Note: Ice Hockey registration fees, for the 2024-2025 season, approved applicants may access a maximum funding amount of $750 per child . If you would like to learn more about this grant program, please click here.
Do you need equipment in order to play? Let us know, and we can make a referral to a partner agency. KidSport grants are intended to be used for sport registration fees; travel and competitions are not eligible for funding.
Eligibility Requirements
KidSport Grande Prairie uses the following eligibility requirements to determine financial eligibility for grants provided through the Provincial Fund.
- Notice of Assessment (recent tax notice each adult in home)
- AISH
- Income Support
- Canada Child Beneft Notice
- Three consecutive Pay Stubs (all adults in home)

How Do I Apply?
Find a sport program your kid would like to join and sign up. Let the program’s administrators know you will be applying for KidSport funding.
- Click here to find your local KidSport Chapter, or see if you are covered by the provincial fund
- Apply online or use the paper application form – be sure to complete all sections of the application, as incomplete applications take much longer to process, and can cause delays in receiving your grant.
- Your completed application will be processed within 30 days of being received. If you qualify for KidSport funding, the grant will be sent directly to the sport program your kid has signed up for.

How does KidSport help? Expand
So ALL Kids Can Play! KidSport Grande Prairie gives grants to families in order to help remove any financial barriers towards any sport. KidSport grants help cover the cost of registration fees.
What does a KidSport grant cover? Expand
KidSport grants cover the cost of sport registration fees for qualified families. Grants are intended to remove financial barriers to sport programs, and cannot be applied to transportation or tournament fees.
What sports are eligible? Expand
KidSport Grande Prairie provides support for kids registered in programs that provide a sustained sport experience (6+ weeks in duration), are taught by qualified instructors, and meet Sport Canada’s definition of a sport. Sport Canada defines a sport as an activity that involves two or more participants engaging in a competition. It involves formal rules and procedures, and requires tactics and strategies, neuromuscular skills and a high degree of difficulty, risk and effort. Programs that are required in order to attain a competitive level (i.e. swim lessons) are also eligible for funding.
Transportation costs and tournament fees are not eligible for funding.
What communities are covered by KidSport Grande Prairie? Expand
Kidsport Grande Prairie & Area serves children and youth living in the City of Grande Prairie or within the following boundaries: West to BC border, East to RidgeValley, North to Spirit River/Rycroft, South to Grovedale. If you are outside our boundaries, you can apply to the Kidsport Provincial Fund.
When is the deadline to apply? Expand
It is best to register your child in the sports program prior to applying for KidSport funding. By registering with the sport you also get information needed to apply online. Each program is different, some only require the Registration ID # but many may require that KidSport funding prior to the program’s start date. You should apply for a KidSport grant as soon as possible after your kid has been registered, as it can sometimes take up to 30 days for applications to be processed.
KidSport grants cannot be applied to programs that have already ended.
How will I know if the application has been approved? Expand
When you apply online, you will be sent an automatic, system-generated email with your approval information. This will only happen by this application.
If you have applied by paper method (through an emailed PDF form, or through a printed form), this information will not be sent to you automatically. If you include your email address any information can then be sentto you to keep you informed.
How do I demonstrate financial eligibility? Expand
Please support your application for funding with One (1) of the following Government or Proof of Income documents:
–Your Notice of Assessment Statement for
most recent tax year (for each adult living in
the home). If you do not have a copy of
your Notice of Assessment, it can be
obtained by calling 1-800-959-8281 and
it will be mailed to you or you can access your
CRA My Account
— Alberta Works Child Health Benefits Letter
— Canada Child Benefit Notice (a copy of the
first and second page)
— AISH
— Income Support
— Subsidized housing
— Three consecutive Pay Stubs of all working
adults in the home

What if the child lives outside of the area we cover? Expand
If your family lives outside of the area we cover, you can apply to the KidSport Provincial Fund. The provincial fund works like a big chapter, and covers all communities that do not already have a KidSport chapter.
Is my information kept private and confidential? Expand
Yes, all your personal information will be stored securely and destroyed once appropriate. Our online application system is secure and trustworthy. KidSport and our partners will never sell or share your personal data.
