We would like to extend a huge thank you to Ilan Cumberbirch and Yard Athletics for their outstanding support of KidSport. The team hosted YARDWORKS 2022 back in July, inviting recreational and competitive teams to challenge themselves by completing a series of physically demanding events, like tire flipping, sled pushing, medicine ball heaving, and more. The best part? Proceeds from the event benefitted KidSport BC and we’re thrilled to share that more than $25,000 was raised to help fund sport for kids across the province. Congratulations on an incredible event and thank you to the Yard Athletics community for your support #SoALLKidsCanPlay!
About the Event
Local Vancouver gym Yard Athletics is once again partnering with Lululemon to throw the ultimate sports day event to raise money in support of KidSport BC.
On July 23, over 192 participants will gather at Thunderbird Stadium at the University of British Columbia to compete in 12 different events from tire flipping to sled pushing to win the YARDWORKS championship title while raising money to support children’s access to sports to ensure no kid is left on the sidelines.
“Growing up sports had a huge positive impact in my life, and we owe all kids the opportunity to experience everything sport has to offer,” says Yard Athletics owner Ilan Cumberbirch.
The annual sports day event is back after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic and it’s more important than ever to help fund KidSport BC as demand for their programs have increased due to skyrocketing costs of living and as families look for ways to keep their children active and involved in community sports.
“Especially after the pandemic where we saw many recreational activities paused, it’s time to help kids get back into the game,” says Angela Crowther, KidSport BC Fundraising Manager. “The skills children learn through sports are carried with them throughout their lives and no more than ever support is needed #SoALLKidsCanPlay.”
KidSport BC provides grants to children from families facing financial barriers to help cover the cost of sport registration fees. Proceeds from YARDWORKS will help fund grants for kids across the province through KidSport BC’s Provincial Fund.
For those interested in competing in YARDWORKS, head to www.yardatheltics.ca/yardworks_2022 for registration information.
Attendance is by donation for those wanting to cheer on the athletes. There will also be a beer garden, food vendors and raffles on site.
