Emma Taylor, 23, is a Scotsburn, Pictou County native who graduated in May 2015 from St. FX University. During her 5 years at St. FX, Emma won 5 AUS conference titles as well as 3 National Championships. She capped off her 5th year with a final AUS title, where she was named AUS MVP and AUS Tournament MVP. St. FX continued on to Guelph, Ontario, where they won a national title, where she was also named CIS Tournament MVP and CIS All-Canadian for the second year in a row. Emma graduated from St. FX with a Business Degree and was named the 2015 St. FX Female Athlete of the Year. From there, Emma was nominated with 3 other female athletes across Canada for the prestigious BLG Award; the title of CIS Athlete of the year.
In June of 2015, Emma was named to the Canadian Senior Women’s roster for the Super Series held in Alberta. During this tournament, Canada competed in Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton against three of the top teams in the world: New Zealand, USA and England. Emma played the opening game of the tournament against the powerhouse New Zealand Black Ferns; this was her first ever cap for Canada. More recently, in November of 2015, Emma was named to the Canadian Women’s Roster for a Maple Leaf tour held in London, England. Unfortunately, while in London, during a scrimmage leading up to the first game, she separated her shoulder and was unable to compete.
Currently, Emma is working in Halifax and training at the Canada Games Centre in Clayton Park where she is prepping for her next Canadian rugby camp. She also Captain’s the Nova Scotia Senior Women’s rugby team; where they won a gold medal at Eastern Canadian’s this past summer, beating Quebec in a nail-biting championship game. She is a member of Team Atlantic, a rugby team composed of the top female rugby players in the Atlantic Region that competes at a National tournament in the summer.
2016 will bring a lot of rugby to Emma. She is currently training for an Atlantic Camp in February, being held here in Halifax. Shortly after in April she will travel to Guelph, Ontario for an East Camp where all long-listed Rugby Canada players from Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic Regions will compete. She is hoping to make the roster for an upcoming tour in June/July taking place in the USA. Right now, Emma’s ultimate goal is to make the 2017 World Cup Roster being held in Ireland. Until then, she plans on training and attending all of her rugby camps in hopes of someday reaching her goal of playing at the 2017 World Cup.
