Athlete, Teacher, Coach, Volunteer

Shelley was asked to be involved with KidSport Carlyle from the beginning. When the Chapter was first launching, the committee wanted a connection to the schools and who better than a teacher who had those ties?

Shelley’s journey in sports began at a young age. Her parents recognized the importance of staying active and encouraged their children to try a variety of sports. Once becoming a teacher she wanted to give back to the sport community. She began coaching and continues to coach track to this day.

She reflected there isn’t really just one moment in volunteering for KidSport that really stands out as it has all been meaningful. She has a lot of great memories of fundraisers put on by their committee, and the community support behind them.

“Volunteering is important as it is a great way to support and give back to your community,” Shelley says. Having a KidSport Chapter in Carlyle for all these years has been invaluable to the local sport organizations. They appreciate knowing that families needing the help have a way to ensure their children will be able to participate in sports.

Her message to others, “Get Involved,’ Shelley encourages, “volunteering with KidSport is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of kids and families.”

Thank you Shelley for your dedication to KidSport So ALL Kids Can Play!
