KIDSPORT CALGARY LAUNCHES INTRO TO GOLF INITIATIVE IN RECOGNITION OF THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE SHAW CHARITY CLASSIC AND THE PROFOUND IMPACT THE EVENT HAS HAD ON OUR COMMUNITY.

In recognition and celebration of 10 years of the Shaw Charity Classic KidSport Calgary in partnership with local club pros and courses will be launching a grow the game initiative to help introduce the game to KidSport families and qualified low-income kids in our community.

The Shaw Charity Classic has had such a tremendous impact on our community, our economy, hundreds of local charities, the game of golf and on KidSport Calgary as one of the tournaments official charity partners since year on in 2013.  In an effort to get more kids back to the sports they love and in recognition of the amazing support our charity has received from the Shaw Charity Classic we are launching this program to introduce golf to deserving kids in our community and to continue to build on the ever growing legacy that is the Shaw Charity Classic.  We are so proud of this partnership and look forward to seeing many kids get to experience the game of golf through this initiative.  As fans flock back to Canyon Meadows this week to see some of the game’s greatest golfers, please help us in sharing our praise and appreciation for the relentless passion and commitment of Shaw Communications, the local event team, the Patrons Group, volunteers, sponsors, fans, and the team at Canyon Meadows. The Shaw Charity Classic is a must attend event on the Canadian sports scene.  We hope to see you out there this week as the event celebrates 10 years of world class golf and an undeniable commitment to our community as they build on their vision of Helping Kids, Changing Lives through this event.

The KidSport grow the game of golf initiative will be launching this August in partnership with local golf pros and clubs.  The program will see low-income families introduced to the game through no cost lessons, information sessions and golf opportunities.  Golf courses around the city will be participating to allow families easy access to this program in different pockets of the city.  Already onboard are Carnmoney, Valley Ridge, Earl Grey, Bearspaw and Lynx Ridge.

Qualified KidSport kids will sign up through KidSport.  They will receive access to lessons, instruction, education and mentorship as part of their introduction to the game. We will also be looking to build an educational piece for parents so they can understand what opportunities there are for their kids in golf right here in Calgary.

Special thanks go out to long time KidSport Ambassador and local golf instructor Scott Stiles and PGA of Canada golf instructor Stephen Yanitski who are helping build the program and connect us with local courses who want to partner.

Registration for families will launch following the Shaw Charity Classic.  If you are interested in getting involved as a course, family, or partner you can contact our office at kidsport@kidsportcalgary.ca
