The Hockey Assist Program (HAP) is a fee assistance program that covers a portion, if not all, of the registration fee connected to competition and season-based ice hockey programs.

• HAP Season 3 Funding Rules:
  • Season 3 runs from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025
  • Maximum funding amount available per kid is $750.
  • A kid is only eligible for HAP funding ONCE per HAP season (i.e., hockey learn to skate program OR full hockey season). If your kid will be registering for both hockey learn to skate and hockey this season, ensure you apply for KidSport HAP funding for the more expensive program.
  • All approved kids receive access to no-cost sport equipment through Sport Central .
  • A kid funded through HAP can also receive funding through KidSport’s regular grant funding program, for other sports (i.e., funding for hockey + swimming).

When applying, it is required to submit:

1. 1. 1. KidSport’s ‘So ALL Kids Can Play!’ Application completely filled out.
      2. Attach the sport registration receipt (or confirmation document, if not paying up front)
      3. Attach financial documentation (click on documents for examples). Must be from most recent tax year & must account for all adults in the home. Preferred document: Canada Child Benefit Notice Page 1 & 2; OR
         • Alberta Health Benefits Letter
         • Subsidized Housing Letter
         • Proof of EI
         • Notice of Assessment for each adult in the home
         • Income Support i.e., AISH
         • Receipt for City of Edmonton Leisure Access or Transit Pass
         • Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada
           • Determining Eligibility - Ukraine Temporary Residents
           • Status Document 1
           • Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP) Statement
         • Delegation of Powers & Duties Document; OR
         • Provide a signed Endorser Verification Letter (from School Principal or Counsellor, Social Worker, Lawyer, Police Officer, Member of Clergy)

• The family must live within the City of Edmonton
• Kid(s) must be registered in a sport program
• Kid(s) must be 18 years and younger
• KidSport considers the social and economic barriers facing the family when determining eligibility including families who face financial hardship and are on AISH, unemployed, or receiving income support through provincial government.

Approval for KidSport Edmonton’s subsidy program is based on the
Federal Government’s Low-income Cut Off Scale (updated April 2024) +50%, for Net Income, as shown below.

Applications are declined if:

• It’s not a sport program
• The sport program is over
• It is not run by a qualified/certified instructor
• It’s not a sport registration fee i.e., lift passes, gym memberships, etc.
• If annual allotment per kid has been used in the calendar year
• The family does not meet the financial requirements
• If the kid is over 18 years old

• Hockey Assist Program (HAP) Season 3 runs from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025
• A kid is only eligible to receive HAP funding ONCE per HAP season (E.g., if you use HAP funding for a hockey learn to skate program, you are not able to also use HAP funding for a hockey season).
• A kid that receives HAP funding for hockey can still be funded for other sports in the year, as long as funding does not exceed KidSport Edmonton's $250 per calendar year maximum.

Programs Funded by HAP:

The following programs are covered through the HAP program. A kid can use HAP funding to cover ONE of the hockey or skating programs below:

• Hockey Alberta Based Programs,
• Para Hockey Programs,
• Recreation Programs,
• Pond Programs,
• Shinny Programs, OR
• Hockey-based learn to skate programs (i.e., Colby's Kids, First Shift, Learn to Play Hockey).

**NOTE: Since a kid is only eligible to use HAP funding for ONE program per HAP season, please apply for HAP funding for the more expensive program **

Programs NOT funded by HAP, but funded by KidSport Edmonton’s regular grant funding:

• Unsanctioned Programs and Academies
  • Teams that are part of the following leagues: Hockey Super League (HSL), Junior Prospects Hockey League (JPHL), Premier Hockey League (PHL), Canadian-American Junior Hockey League (CAJHL)
  • School academy programs (i.e., Vimy Ridge Academy, Edge Academy)
• Skill Development & Non-Ice Hockey Programs
  • Ringette
  • Ball hockey
  • Roller hockey
  • Figure Skating
  • General learn to skate programs
  • Hockey based camps
  • Power Skating
  • Skill Development Programs
  • Try It Programs

NOT funded by HAP or KidSport Edmonton’s regular grant funding:

• Additional fees outside of registration cost
  • Tryout fees
  • Volunteer Opt-Out fees
  • Team fees
  • Tournament fees
  • Transportation
  • Cash calls

Special Note: As of August 1 2023, KidSport Edmonton provides funding grants of up to $350 per eligible kid, per year (January 1st - December 31st).

Together with our network of nearly 40 local chapters, KidSport removes barriers 'So ALL Kids Can Play!' If you do not see a chapter for your community click Here. Grants for parents and guardians living outside of chapter boundaries are provided through the KidSport Alberta Provincial Fund. The provincial fund works like a big chapter, and covers all communities that do not have a dedicated KidSport chapter.
